My favorite book in the series is Prisoner of Azkaban. I loved the new characters that were introduced then.
I would say my least favorite is the sixth book, since it killed my desire for writing HP fanfic! Other than that I liked the book...except for the ending parts.
The books are getting progressively darker, but I'm sure that's her intent.
Sirius won't be back. JKR has said as much...the dead remain dead.
My other least favorite book was Goblet of Fire. Maybe I was looking for more Lupin or Sirius and they were not in it so much.
I agree with Eggos about Lupin being on the chopping block. Ever since Peter Pettigrew was given a silver hand I keep thinking about silver being bad for werewolves.
As far as if Harry will survive the final battle, I'm on the fence. She could do either way.

I've just read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, if anyone wants to discuss it - what did others think of it?
This is the first HP book I've bought in hardcover, and the first one I've actually bought since the original novel...

I was pleased that neither Ron nor Hermione were killed. I do wished that Draco had been killed; he was such a miserable brat. And poor Snape should have been allowed to live; he might have been able to eventually find some happiness somewhere.
I confess that I never cared much about Tonks or Lupin.
Hedwig?????!!!!!
Favorite part was the Battle of Hogwarts!
I am still ambivalent about Dumbledore. He seems to be less and less a wise and kind man and more and more of a cold-hearted manipulator. Nor did all the revelations about his motives and plots seem entirely convincing; I think Rowling should have had more interaction between him and Harry while Dumbledore was alive, or at least more clues, to make the revelations more credible.
On the other hand, the revelations about Snape were convincing; and he seemed to be in character all the way, a lost, haunted soul who nonetheless tried to do the right thing.
What about the epilogue? I would have liked to know more about what Harry was doing with his life...

I loved Deathly Hallows. I think it was possibly the best book of the seven - for enjoyment that is.
I screamed out "yes" when Snape's "innocence" was revealed. It's interesting now to look back at the Half Blood Prince comments.
I was upset about Hedwig and Dobby, although I guess someone had to die who was going to tug at the heartstrings, and it was always unlikely to be Ron and Hermoine who were destined to end up married, and it really was never going to be Harry - good has to be seen to defeat evil! I'm really glad she didn't go for a LOTR type finale for him. For a while I suspected that she might.
Do you think it's worth moving this discussion to the spoiler thread?
I'm too tired to go into it much right now, but I would really like to carry it on later.
