Generally, I liked the movie much better than Prisoner of Azbakan. Harry/Daniel Radcliffe does very well here, in terms of performance and acting, the story is briskly paced, and the special effects are wonderful. There is magic here, though it's getting darker. I liked the Weasley twins; though I must say I wasn't wild about Rupert Grint's performance. Whatsername (?Emma Watson) who plays Hermione, as usual, does a fine job. And Lucius Malfoy still looks like movie-Haldir's long-lost brother - a very fine-looking man, especially for an Evil Guy.
I missed Fang (Hagrid's Neapolitan Mastiff) though.

I thought the 4th movie was fairly good. They need to trim quite a bit of the story to stick with a time-constrained movie format, but that generally works out pretty well. Here are my rather random thoughts:
1- I thought the communication via the fireplace might've looked 'cool' but I think they should've stuck with more of the canon version. If they keep the scene in the next book with the Floo Network and Sirius Black it won't work.
2- I loved the twins in this one. They are quite adorable.
3- There are generally parts that make me cringe, where they go way off base from canon, but since this was my least favorite book of the series I haven't read it as much as the others and nothing struck me that way.
4- I agree that Lucius Malfoy is quite a delicious character, evil, but lovely!
5- Hermione's transformation may have been more dramatic if they hadn't had her so pretty all along. She's a very pretty young girl-- far from the buck-toothed, bushy haired, know-it-all from the books. She does act very well, though, I'll give her that. I think she does the best job of the three 'kids'.
6- Did you notice how tall Draco had gotten? He towered over Harry in the one scene they had together. I think he's several years older than the other leads.

I liked the movie, too (though GoF is my least favorite Potter book), and I think they did an excellent job distilling the plot, which is easily the most convoluted in the series and takes a whole three chapters to effectively explain. I still favor PoA slightly, just because I adore Cuaron's artsy cinematography. ;D I think Dan Radcliffe did a much better job this time around (he's shaping up to be quite good-looking... *enjoys bath scene a little too much* ), but I was a bit disappointed in Rupert Grint and Emma Watson. I thought Ron's abrupt transition from comic relief to Surly Brooding Presence was a bit odd, and that Emma (as usual) overacted hugely. (Not to mention that she's way too pretty! Hermione is supposed to be the prototype for nerds and bookworms everywhere. I feel shortchanged.) Woah, Luscious Lucious Malfoy does look distrubingly like Haldir's evil cousin! I never thought of that! Eh, by the way... did anybody find Barty Crouch Jr. weirdly attractive, or was that just me?

Barty Crouch Junior was much hotter than I had pictured him in my mind. I liked his crazed expression!
Daniel (Harry Potter) is getting much different looking as he ages. I felt embarrassed for him in the bathroom scene, which I thought was quite humorous.

Grrr!!! I envy you all so much! In Hungary, the premier will be only tomorrow, so the normal, but still very lucky people can only watch it on Friday. I am not among them, I can tell you that. (It would be impossible to get a ticket now.)
I am glad that the general opinion is good about the movie. I like the movies, but they lack something which I loved the books for. They are just entertaining films, nothing more. At least the first two was like that. I liked the PoA, especially the way they worked with the time at the end.
I hope this is going to be better than the first three.
Wow, everyone is so upset about that bathing scene, you made me all the more curious! ;D

(It would be impossible to get a ticket now.) That must be tough! I had to wait an entire week to see the movie after it came out in theaters and it almost killed me! (But, then again, after waiting 3 years to see LotR, I'm used to it by now... : I agree with you there. The books are infinitely superior.

Actually, Eggo; I found the movie Goblet of Fire far more entertaining than the book. I found myself unable to get through the book; most of it bored me. I had liked the first three books; but after that, they lost me; I can only read small chunks of them and don't really want to read more. And I was thrilled that there were no house-elves in the movie; though I have no idea whether they appeared in the book.
The bathing scene didn't bother me at all; the lad was decently covered; yes he was embarrassed by Moaning Myrtle's leering, but it wasn't really clear what she was leering at; I had the idea that she was just being her obnoxious self. Thankfully, she was only in one scene; she's not a character I particularly like.
Mad-eye Moody, who also bored me in the book; was amusing in the movie.
RAKSHA , who just read some more chunks of The Half-Blood Prince in the bookstore.

I saw the film tonight and loved it.The best of the films so far in my opinion, but then HPATGOF was my favourite of the books.I was glad the Quiddich World Cup was condensed as that was the most boring part of the book. I thought the Voldemort parts really quite scary and creepy, the "graveyard" screne was chilling and horrible. Harry was very good ,as was Hermione, but Ron gets on my nerves and I don't like the new Dumbledore.As. always I loved Professor McGonagal and loved to hate Snape. All the villains were excellent and I loved the special effects and the scenery. The bath scene was very funny. I found the tragedy at at the end very moving. I was thinking how nice it is,that though we come from different parts of the world, we are able to see and discuss the same film together.

One of my friend saw it today, and said it was terrible, because some cuts were rather ridiculus. I mean that there were such big jumps in time. Also, she said that the movie is too action-centered, and actually all the scenes are about visual effects and excitement. Is it true?

It is two or three years since I read the book so I've forgotten a lot of it,butthe film seemed true enough to the spirit of what I remembered.

Also, she said that the movie is too action-centered, and actually all the scenes are about visual effects and excitement. Is it true? They do cut a lot out of the plot, and it doesn't fit together perfectly. Still, I wasn't too upset about most of the changes they made. There were a few things that bothered me, but overall it seemed fine. A lot of the movie is action-centered... but it's an action-packed book, right?

I watched the movie yesterday. And with my mother!!! She was the last person I would have thought to go with, as she doesn't really like this kind of films. But she enjoyed it. Because she didn't remember the book. But I did. I know it is silly to always compare it with the book, as this is a film, and what works in a book, canot ork in a movie etc., but I still missed some parts. I agree with those who said that this one was the best out of the 4 movies, but it still should improve a lot to get near to the feelings which the book gave me. As for the actors, I had no problem with them. I mean, I got what I expected. None of the actors would get an Oscar, but they were good enough for a film like this. Daniel was a nice surprise though, he improved quite a lot. The "graveyard" scene was the best, I think. It was truly very dramatic. But I felt that it was a bit too quick. Like in the PoA, the scene when we finally learns who is who actually, it was done in 5 minutes, and I think it deserved more. After the graveyard scene was over, I had the same feeling. There were some scenes that made me cringe, but I had a good time, and that was what I expected, nothing more, nothing less.

Eh, by the way... did anybody find Barty Crouch Jr. weirdly attractive, or was that just me? I also am guilty of that. Quite how I'm going to survive without seeing him again until Christmas is beyond me. Oh, well, there's still the poster on my wall to gaze wistfully at until then. ^_^ Of course, what I just said will likely make no sense to anyone who doesn't watch Doctor Who... but anyway... *shrugs* "David" seems to be the name to call someone who you want to grow up to be a really cute actor. David Wenham, David Tennant... uh... David... Wenham? ... I'll stop talking now. (P.S. The movie rocks beyond socks. ;D ;D ;D )

The movie was good - and the 4th book has always been my favourite.
They had to crop a lot and my hubby, who had completely forgotten the book, didn´t get everything. An explanation of Polyjuice would definitely have been helpful. I was disappointed of the scene in the maze - this was shortened too much.
I agree that Hermione was too pretty and Harry reminded me of Frodo! B. Crouch was quite handsome.
