Linda had a wonderful invitation on her LJ so I thought I stop by and check this place out. It looks wonderful! I'm an elementary school librarian who lives in a small town in the state of Washington. I'm in my mid-forties - which is VERY hard for me to believe. I have three cats - Tucker, Abby, and Strider. I became aware of LOTR fanfic about four years ago and have been writing it for a couple of years now. I have so much to learn about writing! But, I've learned a lot since I started and I want to continue to learn and grow as a writer so that hopefully I can write original fiction someday. I think that's about it for now... I look forward to being a part of this community.

Hi, Radbooks! Good to see you here!
A cat named Strider? I wonder where you found that odd name.
From what I've seen of your writing, you don't have that much more to learn before having a go at original fiction.
I remember being overwhelmed with excitement and curiosity when I discovered Tolkien fanfic, back in 2003 I think - and then I saw that people had actually written stories about my favorite character, Faramir. Wow. Never thought I'd actually get dare to write some myself, though.
This is a nice, relaxing site, a good place to hang out too. Welcome to CJ!

Welcome radbooks! Feel free to post any of your fanfiction on this board. You are having libraries in elementary schools over there? How many pupils does this school have?

Yes, most elementary schools over here have libraries of some type although not all of them have teachers - which I am - running them. There are 430 students in my school which is a perfect size as far.

I got that cat from my mom and he had a silly name - as far as I was concerned - and I just had to change it. Thanks for your very kind words about my writing... especially as I'm struggling with it a bit right now. Not really writer's block since I know what has to go on the paper, it's just getting it on there. Real life has been hampering me a bit as well. Oh, I also found your LJ and added you to my friend's list. I was having all kinds of fun last night!

Real life can be pesky at the most inconvenient moments in one's fic-writing career. I'm sure you'll eventually find a way to get the script in your head onto the page.
Laerien - at least some elementary schools have libraries. I went to a small private Quaker elementary school, with a tiny one-room (with a chimney) library. I loved it, except for the librarian, who was one of the coldest creatures imaginable, and who possessed pale, suspicious eyes and a creepy stare. She was the headmaster's wife; I never understood how they got together (he was a cheerful extrovert). She would occasionally bug me about going Outside during Recess instead of to the Library, I would just ignore her. Still a wonderful little library. They had a collection of kids' books, all orange hardcovers, about the lives of famous Americans as children - great stuff, though I'm sure the stories would be considered politically incorrect now. I still remember the chapter with young Rachel Jackson (not yet Jackson) in the rapids, though I can't remember if she was on a boat or a raft...But my favorite of the series was about George Washington Carver, who was a bright boy, born a slave, who overcame so much adversity to become a scientist.
Speaking of cats named Strider, I have seen, well not personally, but photos of, a dog named Aragorn.

He's the Neo (Neopolitan Mastiff, same breed as "Fang" in the Harry Potter movies, only with cropped ears) who took Best of Breed at Westminster last year.
