I love this series. I started, in the best possible way, at the beginning. I could NOT get into The Colour of Magic. My brain just wouldn't accept what it was reading - I couldn't concentrate and take it in. I gave up two or three times...then I must have tried with more determination or something and I hammered my way into Discworld. I was reading one book on a train and couldn't stop myself laughing out loud. I wish I could remember some of the passages which have amused me the most - I guess I'll have to read the series again and make a note of them. One of the bits I've never forgotten is Granny Weatherwax talking about the guy with the stomach problem....the dire rear. Wonderful wonderful characters, including Death, who rides a white horse called Binky (no relation to our Binky) and enjoys a curry.

I have desperately wanted to read this series for the longest time... but my (censored) library doesn't have it ! I encountered a few excerpts online, which have only piqued my curiosity all the more, since the writing style seems very Douglas Adams-y... grrr! (*does the I-Hate-My-Library Glare of Death*)

Yeah, it is like Douglas Adams... in that it's absolutely flipping hilarious! ^_^ I love the Discworld books... my mum bought The Colour of Magic for me years ago because she knows I like fantasy, and I've never looked back. Poor mum said she regretted getting me hooked on the series. I reckon my favourite is Men At Arms, though it's a close thing... I basically adore all the Night Watch ones from Men At Arms to... uh... well, Night Watch (except for Guards! Guards!, which I didn't find all that great, and Thud, which I can't afford till it's in paperback). I love pretty much all of them, though. ^_^ They just keep getting better and better.

I managed to scrounge up a few Discworld books... I've now read The Color of Magic and Monstrous Regiment. I enjoyed both immensely, though I'm a bit daunted by the sheer size of the series...

There's, what, thirty-odd now? And that's not counting the "children's" books set in Discworld... O.o PTerry said something about starting a new book as soon as you finish the old one... I can see he's living up to that.
