I find this site most helpful to find herbal remedies for the many injuries the characters in my LOTR fanfics receive botanical.com/I also came across this link from another group about healing in Tolkien. The site has a selection of interesting articles about Tolkien's world. www.istad.org/tolkien/

Thanx, Linda - I bookmarked the herbal remedies site. I'd already bookmarked the other site awhile, and pretty much forgotten about it amongst my huge collection of bookmarks - thanx for the reminder, since it's a great site!

Thanks! I found the second link VERY interesting and have already read some of the articles. I realized again how poor the Hungarian LotR translation is at some places...

Thanks for posting that up, Linda. I always seem to have trouble finding info on plausible herbal remedies (not so great, since I've been spending a lot of time in the Houses lately in fic!) Bookmarking it now.

Glad you are enjoying these links, I found the article fascinating, especially how Aragorn could mentally link with Faramir in a way he couldn't with Merry and Eowyn, an idea I had already been using in my stoies prior to reading this.I also was interested that the author pointed out the one incidence when Aragorn tells someone else to use the athelas, something which puzzles me.
I know a few healing herbs by heart, St John's Wort to lift the spirits, hawthorn as a tonic for the heart, dandelion for fluid retention, raspberry tea for mothers to be,garlic for infections, but botantical .com has far more. After all the heroes in my stories are suffering from worse than a cold or swollen ankles !
