This thread is devoted to discussion of Viggo Mortenson's latest movie now out on DVD, titled A History of Violence.
So, kick back, grab a cup of joe from Tom Stall at the diner and let's talk.
I will tell you I have not loved a movie this much in a long time. ;D
Viggo Mortenson was fabulous in this! I will tell you, and don't throw stones at me for this, I didn't care for him in the LotR movies. But here he was everything I've always wanted in a man! Okay, maybe a bit more than I wanted, but still...
The supporting cast was also first rate. William Hurt got an Oscar nomination for playing a mob boss, and I thought that Maria Bello playing his wife was quite good. I generally like Ed Harris and this role was no exception. The acting was first rate and the story was very fast paced. The whole movie was only a little over an hour and a half and it seemed to go very quickly.
Without giving too much away I will say that the violence was pretty jarring at times, but it could have been much more graphic, in my opinion. The scenes were not drawn out for shock value.
This character of Tom Stall, the diner owner, was kind of an everyman. He was so gentle and caring most of the time.
The one scene that knocked me off my seat involved the stairwell...goodnight! You got to see a nice shot of Viggo's bare backside, if that's what you'd like to see, that is.
Anyway, I liked it...a lot. It's for rental here in the US and I highly recommend it. ;D
