I was thinking about this following an interesting discussion with a friend. I would never write write smut or slash on grounds of taste, but there are other stories I would find writing a form of torture, because I'd be so bored.
We all have certain types of fanfic we love writing, for example: I love writing about Aragorn and hated writing the chapters of WOT in which he didn't appear.
I was thinking the LOTR fancfic I would least like to write would be about Elladan and Elrohin hunting orcs with Legolas and paying a visit to Thanduril.
I would also hate to write exclusively Hobbit stories,eg Frodo's childhood or tales like Pippin courting Diamond.
I have no talent for writing romance and am scarely better at action scenes.
What would others here, least enjoy writing?

I tend to write angst, action and drama better than other things. I like to read humor, but I'm hopelessly lousy at writing it. Certain characters I would prefer to write--Faramir ( ), Boromir, Elrond and Eomer. Some I am ambivalent about-- like Aragorn (sorry Linda ) and Eowyn. Some I know little about--Hobbits, Gandalf, Dwarves-- and truthfully would not care to know more. I'm rather inept at romance and sex scenes, het or slash. I applaud folks who can write that well, because it's beyond me. I love elves, but don't have enough background to write them well. I have a copy of the Silm gathering dust in my bookshelf. Maybe if my computer broke and I lost my ability to email and be involved in forums I might actually read it... or not.

Great topic!
Well, obviously, I love writing Faramir. I would get bored with writing only Faramir, and also worry that I'm not doing him justice, since he's a multi-faceted character.
I like to write constrained-length (multiples of 100 words, usually 200-800) ficlets on interesting moments, and beings/people, in the history of Middle-earth.
Hardest to write, and for me the least alluring as a writer, would be dwarves and hobbits. Next would be elves; though I've written three pieces about them.
I'm wary of writing Gandalf; not because I don't like him, far from it, he's my favorite of all Tolkien's creations, but because I think his POV, his thoughts, would be very hard to convey. I did do it once, in a drabble...
I'm also wary of writing Denethor, because I see a darkness in him, during much of his life, not just the last week. And his advanced intellect and isolation aren't easy to understand, much less write. I have written him once...
I am curious about what it would be like to write Slash; but I've vowed never to write obvious Tolkien slash; though I saw nothing wrong with some slashy innuendo in a couple of parodies.
I've written Faramir/Eowyn Smut - heeee . Nothing too graphic, at least in my opinion, and I was trying to convey love and passion more than porn.
Aragorn turned out to be easier to write than I'd expected; but I was writing Ranger Strider/Warrior Aragorn on the verge of kingship and in a tired and sometimes cranky condition, not Elessar Telcontar, King of the West; who I find less accessible.
I found writing Arwen very difficult, when I co-wrote her in an as yet unfinished epic I co-wrote with another fanfic writer - except I did have fun when I had her get really, really angry at Aragorn.
I've even managed to write Galadriel, who I don't like much, in an as-yet unposted ficlet that's part of an Aragorn/Arwen romance vignette series.
Most fun was had writing Morgoth in a humor piece.
I do not have any desire to write a Boromir Lives! story.
Action and battle scenes aren't easy for me to write; but my biggest weakness is dialogue, as well as politics.

I am trying to read the Silmarillion, mainly to find out about Aragorn's ancestors. ;D I do occasionally write humour or use it to lighten my stories a little. I would find ficlets and drabbles almost impossible to write, so that would be another form of writing torture for me. Arwen has grown on me and I like her.she is much easier to write than Eowyn ! ;D So it seems my writing nightmare would be a slashy drabble about Elves fighting a battle as I can't write Elves, shudder at slash, am hopeless at action scenes and like plenty of words to express myself with ! I don´t like to write Elves - any elves which includes Arwen - sorry Linda. Slash and explicit erotic fiction wouldn´t be something I´d like to try. I love reading humourous stories, but I can´t word it correctly, so I have already contributed ideas to funny stories and also parodies, but won´t be able to write one by myself. I am also useless with writing stories consisting on more than 3 or 4 chapters.

I don't intend to write long stories, but my best Harry Potter fic was 24 chapters and some of those were over 7 pages in Word--I think the longest was 11 pages. Yikes! It can get away from you quickly. I got in a situation where I came up with some great ideas. The problem was that I didn't realize until later that I had to be sure to resolve every little plot point that I came up with. Now I try to keep it simple. I think you're great, Raksha, but I think the hardest thing for me would be to write drabbles. You may have already picked up on that from the 11-paged chapter dead giveaway. Elves are hard to write, but I don't mind that challenge as much as Hobbits. ;D

Well, Tolkien-inspired slash and especially RPS I would be at a total loss for writing, since I don't buy much of the premise behind it. I'm not sure how good I would be at writing HET erotica, though I might give myself the opportunity to try it. The problem with writing HET erotica is presenting good writing without being gratutiously smutty-- or without using the worst sort of cliches such as might be found in the average R-rated romance novel turned out by following the formula demanded by the publishers.
My other problem would be Silmarillion-inspired elven fics, although fics on this subject are high on my wish list to read for the MEFAs. I don't have enough background on Feanor, his folk, and all the 1st Age F and G people, though I've read the Sil twice and many commentaries on it. The First Agers don't inspire me to write, though they do inspire me to read more about them.
I guess I'm best at humans. I also really enjoyed writing Gandalf and Galadriel for Avoidance and in ficlets. Oops, Gladys is the one First Ager I would like to write more about. When I finally finish Avoidance (4 more planned chapters to go), I have some specific ideas that involve scenes from the POV of bad guys, particularly orcs after Sauron's defeat.I had so much fun writing the Witch King from the perspective of Faramir and Eowyn. Bad guys are a kick. For example, I really loved Raksha's story about Melkor and Sauron.

I've done a few Silm-ficlets; mostly my take on Tolkien moments I found particularly interesting.
I have no desire to write Feanor; since I would just want to holler at him "Would you please get over yourself?!"
Thanx for the kind words about Lord of Werewolves, my Melkor and Sauron piece. Alas, poor Wolfiekins! I find bad guys easier to write when they're funny. Especially Melkor and Sauron; who, as a fallen Vala and Maia, would have minds almost too complex and ancient for me to capture in fanfiction. (which is one reason I don't write more Gandalf pieces; I adore Gandalf as a character, but think he's hard to write convincingly)

I find Hobbits easier to write about than Elves. I would feel if I wrote slash that Tolkien would spin in his grave as it would be so out of character.I've just no wish to nor smutty het. I don't know enough about the Silmariilion to write stories about it.I've enjoyed reading Raksha's stories though. This discussion has actually inspired me to try to write some thing short !

Oh, I just loved "Lord of the Werewolves." I need to get over to the MEFA site and give it a rave. I agree that bad guys are much easier to write when they are funny. For example, the original movie "Night of the Living Dead" scared the bejeezes out of me as a youngster. But my favorite zombie movie has to be "Shaun of the Dead," where the zombies are both scarey and hilarious.
I told my friends at BayCon that I really needed to create a costume for a funny female orc.
