Has anyone else heard about JKR possibly killing off Harry Potter in the final book?
Do you think she'll do it? I've often thought she would and now it comes out that she will kill off two main characters.
Interesting.
Any ideas on who will be the ones snuffed out?

I think she would be very foolish to kill off Harry; since she's been writing a Hero's Journey of sorts, and the books have a wide appeal to young adults (as well as to older adults), it would be thematically ridiculous to kill him. But I would imagine that either Ron or Hermione will die.
Other candidates to be killed - definitely Hagrid, or McGonagall (not both). Possibly one of the Dursleys; but, would anybody care?
Possibly another of the Weasleys - one of the parents, or the twins, or Ginny, in which case Ron would live.
And then there's always Draco Malfoy, Harry's nemesis among the students - Harry killing him would be classical.
And at this point, Snape is looking very good not to survive the final book.

I have heard the rumours too about Harry dying, but hope she doesn't too that as it would greatly upset a good many children( and adults)
I like Hermione so I hope she doesn't die. My guesses would be Hadrid and Ron.
As Harry has left Hogwarts, i've no idea how she will manage to bring all the usual characters into the plot.

I think it comes down to who you think the main characters are. Here is a snippet from her interview:
Rowling says:
"But I have to say two die that I didn't intend to die," she said. "A price has to be paid. We are dealing with pure evil here. They don't target extras do they? They go for the main characters. Well, I do."
She said two who she didn't intend to have die. I think Snape is a foregone conclusion, particularly after the last book, and then two of the kids, since, in my mind, they are the main characters.

I heard on the radio that she said that two of the heroes will die. The last word of the novel is going to be "scar". Now, that´s a starting point for fanfiction writers, isn´t it?

I think it will be Snape and Malfoy. Snape will die saving Harry. Malfoy will die to show kids what happens if you behave like a little s**t. And killing off the heroes would devastate children (and adults) everywhere - people want to see good triumph. I think she will lose a lot of respect if she takes that path.

:DAt least someone shares my view!
But I do not agree that she will write what people wants to see. The first four books were truly 'just' a great tale for children, and adults who are still part children. But the latest one was much more serious. Not a nice fairy tale at all. She made it clear that now this is a kind of war against evil, and therefore there must be sacrifices.

She has gotten progressively darker with each book. I think Snape will die and Harry, maybe others as well. I can hope against hope that Snape is the one she gave the reprieve to, but I doubt it. I don't want Draco to die. He's a right idiot and all, but he truly doesn't have the malevolence that his father does. He couldn't actually kill someone when it came right down to it. I'm hoping she's got some kind of redemption story arc for him. She's not above killing beloved characters. She did that with Sirius Black and the young readers adored him.

I don´t think that she will redeem Draco. Maybe his father will die and Draco will be his heir. In the first place everything will come down to one question: Harry or Voldemort? Maybe Voldemort will get killed, but the evil will continue to exist - just like in the real world.

Here is a link to an article about the interview. syfyportal.com/news.php?id=2702I think if Harry died it would leave a very unsettling feeling, as people like to read this genre for a tale of good triumphing over evil and feel reassured at the end.
