This board seems far too quiet at the moment! Only one person has told me which of my stories they liked (my last attempt to start a thread)we seem to have had very few discussions about anything recently I was wondering which fanfics anyone was reading at present ? I was pleased to recently find a new to "have a Friend " story by Steelelf. www.fanfiction.net/s/2584488/1/these are sweet stories about Aragorn and Faramir. I am continuing to enjot "the not yet requested copy by Elenhin, which included an amusing encounter for Sharpe and Aragorn ! www.fanfiction.net/s/2118512/1/The best new stories I've read recently are by Maddy051280. She is an outstanding writer, her achievent all the greater as a none native speaker. The Healer and the Warrior www.fanfiction.net/s/2519886/1/and its sequel "Imrahil's daughter are absolute gems. I'm also enjoying "Lesser Ring by Larner www.storiesofarda.com/chapterlistview.asp?SID=3931and "In the Service of the King" by Grey Wanderer www.storiesofarda.com/chapterlistview.asp?SID=4038and have recently finished "In the Hands of the Enemy"by Meckinock which is a must for Aragorn angst lovers ! www.storiesofarda.com/chapterlistview.asp?SID=910I'm also betaing a great Aragorn tale "Untrodden Path " by Timmy 222 www.storiesofarda.com/chapterlistview.asp?SID=3916Another favourite on SOA is "Safe Haven " by Songspinner. I'm enjoying A Web of Treason; I also think the writing is a little more crisp and tight, which makes the outpouring of emotion stand out more. There are more shorter sentences mingled with the longer ones than I remember seeing in most of your other stories, Linda.
Most recent new (as opposed to old favorites reread) story I enjoyed: Written on Cloth, a short Aragorn/Faramir story:
www.henneth-annun.net/challenge/chapter_view.cfm?NGID=97&STID=2223&SPOrdinal=20
I'm also reading a fanfic that has absolutely to do with Faramir, and takes place 3000 years after LOTR, and is occasionally very dark but is also beautifully written - The Grey At The End of the World, by Jodancingtree at StoriesofArda.com. It's a sequel to Following The Other Wizard and The Queen's Orc, and continues the story of a very unusual orc who was inspired to redemption by post-RingWar Frodo.

I have my reviewers to thank for pointing out that I was too fond of over long sentences,so I'm trying very hard to make A Web of Treason better !
"Written on cloth" is a perfect gem, which I hope others will enjoy as much as Raksha and I have done.

Hi Everyone -
Yeah, let's get matters revived on this board.
Linda, thanks for starting this thread. I confess that I haven't read your stories. Which of them might you recommend as your favorite?
I've recently peaked at a bunch of short fiction, mostly at SoS but also a few at HASA. The long story that I am following now is "Lesser Ring" by Larner, which you mentioned above. I really like it, being a fan of things Middle Eastern. My only problem is trying to keep some of the lesser Haradrim characters straight. Some of the names that Larner has created are bit similar. But other than that, I really like her/his approach.
Hope you are all well. Let's try to keep Creative Juices alive.
- Steff

Thanks Steff.I'm enjoying "Lesser Ring" but like you, getting mixed up with the characters' names.I've enjoyed it but I did not like the way Aragorn questioned the villians,it seemed out of character for him to have them stripped naked, wicked though they undoutedly were ! My stories, that is a difficult question.if you like a shorter one, I would say "The White Tree".It is my take on where Aragorn finds a sapling and has the old tree removed, only in my version,Faramir was not told.If you like long angsty, gory epics, "Burden of Guilt" was well received by my readers.and I think is my favourite so far.It is 62 chapters long though ! I actually have written the stories so that they could be read as one long one, starting with my Houses of Healing story,"First Meeting" but that isn't very original. Here is the URL to the White Tree www.fanfiction.net/s/2446316/1/Please let me know if you like it or not.Naturally I hope you will, but it's fine if you don't!

Steff, here's a link to my favorite of Linda's stories:
His Father's Son www.storiesofarda.com/chapterlistview.asp?SID=4035
It's short, two chapters, not much angst, and very funny in parts, sweet in others.
Of course, Linda's current Angst Epic In Progress, A Web of Treason, is shaping up to be one heck of a bumpy ride, thrills and chills for all concerned!
I've also been rereading a few stories by the talented EdorasLass, whose stories can be found here:
www.fanfiction.net/u/739699/
She's a skilled and inventive writer who can do parody-comedy, blend stark horror with poignancy, and spin an AU Boromir Lives! tale with a dramatic twist. She doesn't do the expected thing...My favorites of her stories are: Come When You Are Ready (a chilling and gripping AU Denethor story), Shadow of Himself (an unusual Boromir LIves AU tale), The Diary of Eowyn, Daughter of Eomund (a funny movieverse 'diary' in the style of the Cassie Claire 'Diary' series - with implied slash and definitely appreciation of Faramir's finer qualities), and Sea Longing (a short and bittersweet tale by the unnamed governess of little Boromir and Faramir that addresses the reasons behind Finduilas' fading, and also presents a refreshingly honest glimpse of the two youngsters as real, not saccharin-sweet, kids).
High Places, by Kielle www.fanfiction.net/s/1327825/1/ A lovely short Silmarillion fanfic - it really helps to have read Of Tuor And The Fall of Gondolin, plus Of The Voyage of Earendil, in The Silmarillion, first....Kielle also wrote one of the funniest Tolkien fanfics I've seen - Blood And Warm Blankets, which makes fun of slash cliches. Kielle died two days ago; she was only 32 ...

This board seems far too quiet at the moment! Thank you for posting this list of stories Linda - I will try and read them all asap. You are right that the board is quiet. My own reason/excuse is that I have been back and forth to see my mum, first in hospital, and then at home when she was discharged. I never seem to devote much time to anything lately, but I shall do my best to spend more time here. Of course, new members would be an advantage - so if anyone knows anyone who might be interested in joining, please do invite them over.

I have to admit, my fanfic reading/writing time has dropped way off lately. So that's mainly why I haven't been talking so much here. But here's some of the ones I've been reading... By the Book by Deandra www.fanfiction.net/s/2253822/1/ It's a Eomer/Lothiriel story, and my favorite of her stories, though I've also read several of her one-shots that feature their son as well. She also did a revised version of this story (that she said I inspired ;D ) from the reverse point of view, which was really fun. Love Comes Softly by Sache8 www.fanfiction.net/s/2082637/1/Another E/L story (yes, I'm on a Rohan kick), but completely different from the previous one-- it's much more serious, and Lothiriel's initial love interest is rather surprising. But I love her picture of the Rohirric culture. Further Adventures of the Fanfiction Fellowship by Terreis www.fanfiction.net/s/1976531/1/, which is the sequel to Adventures of the Fanfiction Fellowship www.fanfiction.net/s/1765821/1/ I love this series. The basic premise is Arwen and Eowyn getting sick of watching the men in their lives act like idiots because of the situations fanfic authors stereotypically put them in, so they decide to get rid of fanfic, and get help from characters in several different fandoms (including Pirates of the Caribbean, Stargate SG-1, and Chronicles of Narnia, all three of which are among my absolute favorites.) And you wouldn't think a crossover this massive would work, but it does. Impatiently waiting for an update, because it's been awhile. Masquerade ( www.storiesofarda.com/chapterlistview.asp?SID=2884) and A Merry War ( www.storiesofarda.com/chapterlistview.asp?SID=3837), both by Elendiari22. Masquerade is a Gothic-style mystery set before the remaining Fellowship parts ways after Aragorn's wedding, which I won't say anything else on because it would give too much away. A Merry War is set before the Fellowship leaves Rivendell, and involves a prank war between several members (namely, Aragorn and Legolas vs. Merry and Pippin) that starts when the hobbits believe Aragorn didn't have to lead them through the Midgewater Marshes and want revenge. Silly, but fun.

Those drabbles are beautiful, thanks, Raksha. I've just enjoyed reading this story about Aragorn,Denethor and young Boromir at www.fanfiction.net/s/2339609/1/I only came across as I was studying the MPA awards entries and greatly enjoyed it.

I've been very involved in the MEFA Awards nominations. I joined their yahoo group as a nominator. Much to my surprise, I've actually nominated stories by four authors who at some point or another have been involved with Creative Juices: Raksha, Make It Stop, Princess Faz, and Sue B. Oh, and me. In an effort to become a good MEFA citizen, I've been reading some of the nominated fiction. The "review" cycle for the public won't happen until June some time. At that point everyone can read and review the nominated stories. Right now I am catching up with Sue B's 'A Lasting Peace," which is available on fanfiction.net here: www.fanfiction.net/s/2820336/1/Linda's "The White Tree" is on my Wish List, aka, the list of stories that I want to review. If you are looking for interesting fics to read, I'd suggest checking the list of nominated stories for the MEFAs as soon as they become public. I'm really quite thrilled with the depth and the quality of the stories I've uncovered so far. - Steff
